As part of our growth and evolution a new opportunity has arisen for a network engineer to join UKSolutions. This varied and challenging role within an existing professional Networks & Datacentre Facilities Team to provide ongoing support of core and client networks and datacentre infrastructure. As a part of the full service we offer our clients, you may also engage in pre-sales designs through to physical implementations on a project basis. You must have some experience in Cisco routing, switching and security extending into content aware environments.The position is based at our Studley facility (B80 7BG) and suits a person with previous ISP or mission critical experience, excellent general competencies, good telephone manner with an interest to learn. Good face to face meeting skills and professional mannerisms are essential as there is also a requirement to participate in customer meetings to provide technical input. It is desirable, though not essential, to have recognised certification or qualifications such as CCNA and experience of supporting business critical environments.
The role will include an on-call provision and therefore the applicant will need to be within a reasonable travelling distance and require their own transport for occasions when public transport may not be available (e.g. due to time of day).
Profile of Job Holder
Competencies: Networks & Facilities- Mandatory exposure: Layer 2 switching, DSL fault management, Radius, Firewalls & IDS
- Other desirable technologies: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Layer 2 switching, STP, VLAN Trunking/Port Channel, Cisco ASA, Cisco IDS/CS MARS etc
- Desirable: Cisco CCNA/equivalent or some relevant experience
- Linux/Unix, Basic PHP/Perl/Expect scripting and monitoring systems experience
- Datacentre operations such as power systems, cooling and cabling
- Competency with skills required for the core roles outlined above
- Competent at fault diagnosis, tracing and traffic capture/analysis
- Able to plan and execute planned and unplanned work in a way to minimise service interruption
- Committed professional with a variety of technical and commercial skills
- Organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with excellent written and spoken English
- Internet and Computer Literate
- Own a driving license and transport to be able to reach Studley within 30 minutes and work as a part of the on-call rota
- Have a flexible approach to work and be able to handle a number of tasks simultaneously
- Be dedicated, honest and reliable to the business
- Be discreet and respect confidentiality both within and outside the business
Specific Details
Remuneration- £18-23k per annum
- Depending on experience and ability
- 25 days holiday (5 may be selected by the company), plus 8 public holidays
- Healthcare, Permanent Health Insurance and Death in Service benefits after probationary period
