Senior Network Engineer

Role

As part of our growth and evolution a new opportunity has arisen for a senior and experienced network engineer to join UKSolutions. This varied and challenging role within an existing professional Networks & Datacentre Facilities Team responsible for design, deployment, ongoing maintenance and support of core and client networks and datacentre infrastructure. As a part of the full service we offer our clients, you will also engage in pre-sales designs through to physical implementations on a project basis. You must have a strong background with skills in Cisco routing, switching and security extending into content aware environments.

The position is based at our Studley facility (B80 7BG) and suits a person with previous ISP or mission critical experience, excellent general competencies, good telephone manner with an interest to learn. Good face to face meeting skills and professional mannerisms are essential as there is also a requirement to participate in customer meetings to provide technical input. It is desirable, though not essential, to have recognised certification or qualifications such as CCNP/CCIE, and essential to have practical experience of managing business critical environments.

The role will include an on-call provision and therefore the applicant will need to be within a reasonable travelling distance and require their own transport for occasions when public transport may not be available (e.g. due to time of day).

Profile of Job Holder

Competencies: Networks & Facilities

• Mandatory technologies: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Layer 2 switching, STP, VLAN Trunking/Port Channel, Cisco ASA etc
• Desirable technologies: Cisco IDS/CS MARS, Netflow, DSL/Radius technology, MPLS
• Understanding of transmission layer services (CWDM/DWDM/SDH/Wavelengths/Optics (e.g. LR/SX)/Fibre types)
• Cisco CCIE or CCNP with 3+ years relevant experience
• Linux/Unix, Basic PHP/Perl/Expect scripting and monitoring systems experience
• Involvement in datacentre design and operation, and understand the performance/business continuity needs of an ISP

Competencies: general

• Critical systems administration experience
• Competency with skills required for the core roles outlined above
• Competent at fault diagnosis, tracing and traffic capture/analysis
• Able to plan and execute planned and unplanned work in a way to minimise service interruption
• Committed professional with a variety of technical and commercial skills, and a proven service oriented methodology
• Past experience which required the ability to work under pressure and to measured quality levels
• Organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with excellent written and spoken English
• Experience of IT Project Management
• Knowledge of ISO27001
• Internet and Computer Literate
• Own a driving license and transport to be able to reach Studley within 30 minutes and work as a part of the on-call rota
• Have a flexible approach to work and be able to handle a number of tasks simultaneously
• Be dedicated, honest and reliable to the business
• Be discreet and respect confidentiality both within and outside the business

Competencies: commercial

• Interact with Customers at varying technical levels to extract and document pre-sales requirements
• Develop costed and thorough proposals with Account Managers to achieve customer specifications
• Represent the Company at technical industry events, forums and similar
